— Our Process
How It Works
Survey & Structural Assessment
A site visit inspects foundations, damp-proof courses, roof structure and vehicle access, plus an assessment of thermal upgrade and services routing.
Design, Consent & Sign-off
We prepare detailed drawings, submit Building Regulations and any Planning/Party Wall notices, and coordinate Velux or external door specifications if needed.
Build, Certification & Handover
Full carpentry, insulation, electrics, heating and finishes are installed by our trades; we complete compliance paperwork, run final inspections and hand over snag-free.

Why Choose Us?
Premium, trades-led finish
Skilled joiners, plasterers and electricians deliver neat, modern interiors - floating floors, airtight junctions and bespoke joinery for a high-end result.
Compliance & peace of mind
Work is Building Regulations-compliant, registered where required and backed by our Trustmark and Which Trusted Trader status - paperwork and certificates supplied.
Local knowledge & responsive service
Based in Oxfordshire with a 25-mile radius, Acute Homes understands local house types - Victorian terraces, modern semis and suburban estates - so designs fit the property and neighbourhood.
Full structural and thermal upgrade. Converting a garage isn’t just plastering the walls. We check foundations, the existing slab and damp-proofing, tie in new load-bearing lintels or steel beams where required, and install a continuous thermal envelope — floor insulation, insulated walls, upgraded party-wall treatment and new double-glazed openings or a replacement external door. Where the garage adjoins the house we assess fire separation and, if needed, fit certified fire doors and visible compliance records as part of the conversion.
Services, finishes and project management. We handle new heating (radiators or underfloor), full rewire or consumer unit upgrades, plumbing for en-suite or utility additions, and roof or rooflight works with Velux-certified installation. Every conversion is managed with RAMS and a clear programme so trades arrive in sequence; the job includes plastering, bespoke carpentry, decoration and a snag-free handover with the required Building Regulations certificates and finish photos to support any future sale or compliance audit.
— FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Most internal garage-to-living-space conversions fall under permitted development if you’re not enlarging the footprint or changing the external appearance significantly. Exceptions include listed buildings, conservation areas or if you extend the garage; we check this during the initial survey and advise if a planning application is necessary.
